A region filled with history: a 2600-year-old wine-growing tradition.
Located on the eastern plain of Corsica, between sea and mountains, the Cave of Aleria enjoys an exceptional climate, favourable for grape growing and the production of typical cuvees of our region.
We also retrace the story of men and women. The story of passionate people who decided in 1976 to pool their resources and knowledge in order to reconnect with the history of their region: the Eastern Plain of the island, recognized since the Roman age for the quality of its wine. Heir to our tradition, unique terroir and culture, we wish more than ever to transmit this heritage, which continues to inspire us in all our innovations and progress through an authentic approach.
One vineyard's story
The Cave of Aleria, chaired by Christian Orsucci, brings together 70 winemakers from a 1500-hectare area, between Borgo and Ghisonaccia. A team of professionals takes care of every single plot of this historic vineyard. Outside the harvest season, 51 people assist the winemakers: oenologists, agricultural engineer, technicians… all of them provide advice and expertise with a view to exclusively produce the best of the best.
Combining centuries-old tradition with high-tech innovation, we have successfully adapted to the changes. The ancestral know-how is enhanced here by highly modern equipment and facilities: a laboratory, six wine presses, both concrete and stainless steel vats and oak barrels (for our high-end wines) with a total capacity of 200,000 hectoliters, and also kilometers of pipes and cables. With all this equipment, the Cave of Aleria takes the lead in the Corsican wine production and distribution.
Award-winning wines year by year
The Cave of Aleria produces every year 7 million bottles and a million bag-in-boxes of wine. 10 brands and about thirty varieties of wine, in every price range, are available both at supermarket and in delicatessen stores, as well as in the finest restaurants in Corsica and elsewhere. “Vins de pays”, barrel-aged “Cuvee Prestige”, vintage wines, fruity or rather sweet, and obviously Corsican AOC wines made with local grape varieties: vermentinu, niellucciu or sciaccarellu. Whether you are a novice or a wine expert, you will find here your heart’s desire. Our wines, which have been regularly awarded in national and international wine competitions, appeal to chefs and restaurant owners. Vinalies internationales, International Wine Challenge, Lyon International Competition, Bordeaux Wine Trip-BWT, Mundus Vini and Concours Général Agricole in Paris, where in 2017, our wines ended up with no less than 20 awards. This recognition of our expertise and quality demand encourages us to continue our work with a real involvement in the sustainable and responsible exploitation of our vineyards.
That is how we make the Corsica wines ambassadors of our island, of its “art de vivre” and its culture, so unique in the Mediterranean area.
